Lisduff

(Dr. Willie Nolan)

This townland lies in a northerly direction and is bounded in this parish south and south-east by Graigueheeshia, south and south-west by Kilcooley Abbey and on the west and north-west by Urard.  There are a few ringfort in this townland but only one is od known significance; this being Lisduff Fort.  This ringfort is now largely eroded down.  There seems to have been a wide fosse measuring approximately 24 feet.  The diameter across the centre of the fort measures approximately 145 ft. (2).

Lisduff’s other main claim to fame is that, as a border area, it was the site of a number of the earliest recorded inter-county hurling matches between Kilkenny and Tipperary in the formative years of the sport.
